This week we have been out installing Electric Vehicle charge points.
Out of the 4 installations we carried out, 3 of them were My Energi Zappi’s and the final one was a Project EV Pro Earth.
Job 1 - My Energi Zappi with wall Socket linked to Solar Edge PV system
This installation is for a customer who is having a Kia PHEV delivered in September.
The job is on Warwick Avenue in Littleover, Derby. Not too far from our office so we went out to quote this after a quick phone call to check the details.
A Solar Edge system is already in place at the property so we recommended a My Energi Zappi EV Charge point. Our customer was delighted at the idea of seeing real time solar generation on the app for his EV charger.
To carry out the installation a new cable was ran from the existing Consumer unit to the charger. We surfaced clipped this through the garage.
2 CT Clamps lets the Zappi talk to the Grid for overall load monitoring. The 2nd CT Clamp went on the supply to the Solar PV system and monitored the PV generation.
Job 2 - My Energi Zappi, Black with Socket for a Tesla Model X
This job was an upgrade of an old EV Charge point for an existing customer in Mickelover, Derby.
Jamie has a Tesla Model X. This is Ben’s dream car so he is alway happy for an excuse to go an have a look. It would fit in really nicely with our fleet of Grey vans!
An old charger was in place and has been installed for nearly 5 years. We removed this and replaced with a Zappi. Load management in place, and also OPEN protection built in. The old charger had none of this fitted as it wasn’t a requirement at the time of installation. The regulations change every few years and we are taking regular training courses to stay on top of the changes.

Another Zappi, another existing customer, another Tesla. Model 3 this time.
All our jobs, new enquiry or an existing customer, gets completed with our EV software. This allows us to easily process the OZEV (previously OLEV) grant claim. When Ben (not our Ben, another Ben) got in touch to ask about a charger we sent him the link. Even though we have fully rewired this property and even left a cable in place for the charger, we still use the simple form to process the job.
Due to the location of the charger, we installed a Harvi to connect the CT clamps. The property is still work in progress but this has been one of our favourite jobs over the lsat few years.
Job 4 - Project EV Pro Earth
The final EV charger installation of the week was a Project EV pro earth. This is the first Project EV charger we have fitted.
Their head office is on Burton on Trent so it is fitting that our install be only a few miles away. The new matt black charger is really nice looking. This one is for a new Volvo XC60 electric.
